Fine Art Media

We offer only tried and tested media that we are happy to stand by in terms of quality and what we know the Fine Art world is demanding. Many more media have been tried than we ultimately offer our clients as it is intentional to have minimal overlap in our product range while looking for the best that is currently available.

From time to time clients may have special media requirements. For example where they have had a successful exhibition and want to stick with a certain paper while fulfilling their orders. Provided there is sufficient work involved we are happy to consider these requests.

Fine Art Papers

Museo Portfolio Rag

Description

Museo Portfolio Rag
2X Magnified
Museo Portfolio Rag (originally known as Crane Portfolio Rag) really is at the pinnacle of Fine Art printing media!

Museo Portfolio Rag has been on the market for a few years now and many are raving about it. For years the dominant force in this market has been Hahnemuhle Photo Rag and while it has very much deserved it's dominance its no longer a one horse race. Portfolio Rag offers the same superb gamut and image stability (when using our printing processes) as Photo Rag but there are absolutely no optical brighteners in Portfolio Rag. Under daylight conditions, Portfolio Rag is slightly warmer than Photo Rag and it’s slightly less soft to the touch. Post printing I find that it flattens out a little quicker which is always handy when exhibition deadlines are looming!

That said, both papers are superb and command high prices for artists in demand. The final decision will come down to personal preference.

Features

Recommended Applications

Fine Art Photographic Printing: It's excellent dynamic range and retention of detail lend it perfectly to Colour and wonderfully rich Black & Whites when using our advanced Monochrome printing techniques.

Art Reproductions: From soft ethereal watercolors and pastels to punchy oils and everything in between. We have used this paper to duplicate pencil sketches, screen prints and magazine montages and the results never disappoint.

Exhibition work: A well known and well regarded medium by many top class galleries.

Hahnemuhle Photo Rag

Description

Museo Portfolio Rag

Photo Rag is still the most popular choice made by photographers creating high quality fine art prints. For so long this paper has had no serious competition. That has changed in the last 4 years but the continued popularity of Photo Rag is testament to it's proven performance.

While it has a small amount of optical brighteners, this paper has been independently tested by Wilhelm Imaging Research and shown to offer superb colour stability when printed upon with UltraChrome K3 inks.

Hahnemuhle Torchon

Description

Museo Portfolio Rag
1X Magnified
Torchon is a generously textured clean white paper very much of a watercolour derivation.

Torchon is French for 'cloth’ or ‘tea towel’ and is used in the art world as a reference to texture. What I love about this paper over and above many other similar papers is the naturalness of the texture. Its slightly irregular nature looks hand made. You might think that such a paper is not capable of showing fine detail but that’s simply not the case with Torchon. This makes it very good for art reproduction. Equally it lends itself to illustration and photographic work with it's ability to add another dimension to areas of the image where detail is low (such as water or clouds).

Features

Recommended Applications

Fine Art Photographic printing: Torchon comes into its own where you have significant areas of lower detail in your image. Long exposure shots of water, or clouds for example. Rocky outcrops and red desert sands can look superb.

Artwork reproduction : Pastel, Pencil and Watercolour in particular.

Illustration: A growing number of Pixel Artists and traditional illustrators have used this paper, to great effect.

Hahnemuhle Bamboo

Description

Museo Portfolio Rag
2X Magnified
Hahnemuhle Bamboo is the world’s first digital fine art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibres. Its a warm white archival quality paper with a smooth surface texture, made from 90% bamboo fibres and 10% cotton. Hahnemuhle Bamboo meets the highest industry standards regarding density, colour gamut, and image sharpness while preserving the special touch and feel of genuine art paper

Features

Recommended Applications

Fine Art Photographic Printing: Particularly suitable for warm-toned colour and monochrome prints, Bamboo really highlights the sensuality of an image.

It has a surface finish very much like Hahnemuhle Photo Rag but because its Bamboo it has has an earthy natural look reflecting the fact that it is manufactured in a way that is friendlier to our natural resources.

Illustration: It depends very much on the nature of the work but I have seen some wonderful illustrations made on this cream toned paper which looks very similar to some popular water colour papers.

Fine Art Canvas

Hahnemuhle Monet

Description

Museo Portfolio Rag
1X Magnified
A real heavy weight of a canvas at 410 GSM!

With enough 'tooth' to be appreciated as a canvas but not so much as to compete with the image content. It's just a lovely natural white canvas and the added weight makes the final product look and feel special. The matt surface gives it a true Fine Art appearance and the lack of glare even in difficult lighting conditions is a serious advantage.

Monet is the perfect choice for a more contemporary look and the relatively low cost of stretching allows you to achieve a lower overall product cost.

Features

Recommended Applications

Fine Art Photographic printing: Monet offers such good detail and superb dynamic range for a canvas that the 'world is you oyster!' For professional portrait/wedding photographers Monet is a cut above the rest and your clients will appreciate it.

Artwork reproduction: Oils, Acrylics & Watercolour can look so good when reproduced on Monet that artists are often surprised by how well they compare to the original.

Illustration: Another popular choice for Pixel Artists and traditional illustrators.
